“The thing that haunts a man most is what he isn’t ordered to do” -Clint Eastwood as Walt Kowalski in Gran Torino (2008).
Seldom do we in fact experience true genuine sacrifice of note. The movement image Gran Torino, made and directed by Eastwood, nevertheless, presents a rousing story rooted in the sacrifice of 1 man’s life for an additional younger man. It is a story caged in belief of character.
There are at least two deeply philosophical messages in Gran Torino for the interested analyst:
1. When pressed in life, detach, assume, plan and remain calm–do not rouse the enemy

This sort of sacrifice–a life for a life–is anything we hardly conceive. And this is precisely why Satan was defeated by Jesus. Satan in all his wisdom couldn’t suppose to feel like God. But, in Gran Torino, Kowalski did assume like God.
Finally, the quote at top is chilling for us all. It is straightforward for us to absolve ourselves of duty or blame when we merely obey someone, rightly or wrongly, although our consciences nevertheless require reconciling. When we do factors of our own volition, nevertheless, there is no going back–we live and die by our alternatives.
